Anime: Blood: The Last Vampire
Manga: Blood: The Last Vampire 2000 (I think it's
2002 in some countries, but it's the same manga
Games: Blood: The Last Vampire (I don't know the
full name of the game, but I think it's for the PSX and only released in Japan)
Saya. So, where to begin? Saya is the protagonist
in the Blood: The Last Vampire anime movie, game, and manga. Apparently there
are rumours of a planned anime series as well, but I have my doubts about how
genuine they really are, since the manga seems to finish the series off.
Not much is actually known about Saya in the anime, since all that happens is
her going around killing chiropterans (also called demons). She works for some
sort of organisation, and the anime leaves way too many questions. It's said
in the anime that Saya is the last original, and it's clearly hinted at that
she's a vampire, who hunts her own kind. It goes without saying it's difficult
to write a description on a character when nothing about her is revealed. She
seems to be a cold and quiet person, and that's it.
Okay, here come the real spoilers from the manga
(I've not played the game, but presumably it doesn't tell that much). Everything
is revealed in the final chapter. Highlight the text if you wish to know more
details about Saya (although I advise buying the manga instead). It's set about
25 years after the anime, and Saya still seems to work for that organisation.
There was a race of superhumans, and humans experimented and crossbred them
in order to create an improved type of human, but it only resulted in the chiropterans
as they are now. So, in order to fix their mistake, they created a weapon to
hunt down and kill the chiropterans from the only remaining member of the pureblooded
species, and this weapon was Saya. There, I've spoiled everything, and still
have nothing to actually write about her character.
